Early in Gene’s career his talent was evident, from winning his first art contest to becoming the recipient of the “Bertha H Mangedoht Scholarship.” After moving to California, Gene painted under the direction of two nationally known and respected artists: Lorser Feitefson and P.M. Flurie. Gene was honored again for his art accomplishments in painting with yet
attracted the Chrysler Corporation and General Motors. He then moved to Detroit to paint for both corporations. After much recognition, Gene returned to Nebraska to spend quiet time developing his unique impressionistic style. He was commissioned to paint animals for Wild Kingdom, portraits for ConAgra and award winning paintings for Ducks Unlimited and
another scholarship from the prestigious Art Center School of Painting. Moving to New York his work was immediately recognized and selected to create visions for large corporations including: Time Magazine, General Foods, Travelers, Young and Rubicam and various others. His emotional approach to his paintings Homestead National Monument. He won the First of State Nebraska Habitat Stamp competition. His sculpture design for the Nebraska Veteran's Memorial won top honors. He also designed and created a 34 foot wall sculpture for Northwestern Bell and was asked to sculpt several bronze sculptures for Mutual of Omaha.
